Located in the Learning Commons, the Center for Multimedia Communication is a state-of-the-art training ground for future communication professionals. The center includes provides a variety of media tools that can be used necessary to publish an online newspaper; direct, product, shoot, or edit video and audio programming; create and publish a PR newsletter; work as on-air television or radio talent; create virtual sets; produce short films; manage social media accounts; broadcast live sporting events; and much more.

Features include:

TV Studio

Our state-of-the-art TV Studio supports education and co-curricular activities in TV and film production. At the center of our main TV production facility is a TriCaster8000 Switcher. It is supported by High Definition studio and field cameras and digital audio software. The space doubles as a classroom where all of our studio production courses take place.

TV-Marywood

The TV Studio and in-field equipment also support TV-Marywood, Marywood's student-run television station. Distributed by Comcast and Facebook, department programming reaches 100,000+ households.

Students work as on-air talent, reporters and assume other management and production positions. First-year students will also be able to start working at TV-Marywood from Day One.

Editing Suites

Our Center includes seven Mac-based audio and video editing suites. The suites are complemented by an array of in-field, portable video production equipment and systems. These include HD cameras and lighting kits. A Digital Media Lab also supports audio, video and digital imaging applications.

Radio Station: 91.7 WVMW-FM

An award-winning radio station equipped with digital equipment and an adjacent production studio, WVMW-FM is a student-managed radio station. Students work as on air talent and assume other management and production positions, from Day One. WVMW-FM has won a number of awards as one of the top regional college radio stations. In 2010, the station won national recognition as one of "The 40 Best Little Radio Stations in the Country" by Paste magazine. Featuring mainly alternative music 

VMFM 91.7 has been named “Best College Radio Station” continually for nearly two decades. VMFM is on air 24/7 and also streams online.

Newsroom

Equipped with 16 Mac computers, all featuring the latest in industry software needed to produce communication messages in a variety of platforms, our Newsroom supports the work of students at The Wood Word, TV-Marywood, and our Public Relations Student Society of America Chapter. The space serves as a conference space, our newsroom allows students to hold staff meetings and production meetings. The space doubles as a classroom that supports all of our writing and production-based courses. 

The Wood Word Office 

The Wood Word is an online news source serving the Marywood University community. A staff of student journalists produce news and other content for the website. Now more than 100 years old, The Wood Word serves as a platform for original, fair and accurate reporting and strives to empower the community by engaging its members in conversation while respecting their diversity of opinions. In all of its endeavors, The Wood Word aims to provide editorial and community leadership on the Marywood campus. The Wood Word Office serves as the official home of the online student-news source. Students hold regular office hours to ensure they are accessible and available to members of the Marywood community. Stop by and talk with a reporter or editor!
